Re Use, Re Cycle, Renovate
Re Use, Re Cycle, Renovate I see so many builders around Adelaide with green builder, eco builder etc written on their cars but often when you talk to them do they really practice what they preach?
Are you driving past their sites and seeing new building materials in their bins?
Is the building waste getting separated properly before it gets removed or is it going into landfill tucked away somewhere in SA? Is there any kind of plan to re home the useful things that come out of demolition and can be used for other construction projects or people things that may be useful for someone and to save on wasted production getting shipped over from overseas . I recently saw a build happen near one of my new sites where the people across the street had their new home built in the place of to homes that looked to be built in the 90's. Plastered across their vehicles was advertising saying that they were eco minded mean while while my team dismantled the house across the street carefully removing anything that could be recycled or reused we watched them drive a 20 T excavator through the front door of 2 perfectly good homes (one still fully furnished) and dump it all in a bin to take it to the tip.
It was very disappointing seeing so much going in the bin from someone who puts so much effort into advertising as a green builder. And while it is definitely slower if you save on 5 truckloads of building waste going to the tip it doesnt have to cost any more if you are smart about it
Ask your builder where the waste goes? do they have a waste management plan? Do you see piles of new building materials in the bin on their other building sites?
Always ask questions if your builder doesn't want to answer its probably not the best sign
